Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based, specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy that teaches people how to live in the moment, develop healthy coping strategies for stress management, regulate intense emotions, and improve their relationships with others. Our TRRC clinical team utilizes dialectical behavior therapy to treat mental health conditions and substance use disorders.

DBT sessions at Touchstone Ranch Recovery Center include group and individual therapy. We will work with you to identify any character flaws and practice the skills needed to implement change.

Our team will help you learn to use your own body and your senses to live in the moment, and develop mindfulness, with a focus on utilizing healthy coping skills instead of destructive behaviors.

DBT helps people understand how thoughts affect emotions and behaviors. You will also learn distress tolerance skills, which will allow you to successfully manage emotional situations without becoming overwhelmed, and therefore overcoming negative behaviors, such as impulsivity.

DBT skills assist you in accepting yourself. You can develop interpersonal effectiveness skills by being more assertive in relationships, learning to hone emotion regulation skills that help you navigate your feelings in healthy ways.

DBT is carried out in a series of stages over the course of several weeks or months.
