DUAL DIAGNOSIS

INTEGRATED CARE FOR LASTING RECOVERY STARTS HERE

WHAT IS DUAL DIAGNOSIS?

A dual diagnosis is a condition in which a person experiences both a substance use disorder and any other disorder simultaneously.

These co-occurring conditions may include any two or more substance use disorders or mental health disorders listed in the (DSM-5-TR) more than one drug addiction, a drug and alcohol addiction, a drug addiction and a psychological or eating disorder (such as depression or anorexia), or drug addiction and a medical diagnosis (such as AIDS or cirrhosis).

Some of the most common: anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder, PTSD, ADHD and mood disorders.

These conditions represent high-risk patients who do not usually respond as well in rehabilitationprograms that don’t meet their specific needs.

While each type of condition may exist independently, the combination of a medical or mentalillness with drug or alcohol use disorders can compound the acute and long-term effects, emphasizing the importance of seeking help from a provider who specializes in the treatment of co-occurring disorders.

Our professional staff is highly skilled at the Master’s level in treating adults with co-occurringdisorders under the direction of our addiction psychiatrists and the Medical Director. If you orsomeone you know is struggling withsubstance use while experiencing symptoms of one or moreother disorders, please contact Touchstone Ranch Recovery Center to schedule a consultation.

HOW DOES DUAL DIAGNOSIS TREATMENT WORK?

At Touchstone Ranch Recovery Center, we first perform a comprehensive health assessment to ensure our clients have accurate diagnoses. The presence of mind-altering chemicals, such as alcohol or drugs, can have a dramatic effect on a person’s mood and behavior; therefore, we treat those with addiction or alcoholism as their primary diagnosis.

When there are indicators of possible dual diagnosis, it is much more apparent once any illicit or addictive substances are removed from all systems of the body, through medical detoxification.

We are an integrated care facility, which means, our inpatient clients meet with addiction psychiatrists and other Master’s level mental health professionals for assistance in diagnosing and treating co-occurring disorders.

For best practice and case management, we work together with designated professionals, while sharing medical and clinical information and updates regarding each client’s progress; and as a team, we help our clients find the most efficient route to effective treatment and long-term recovery.
